June 15th, 2006 - Lilies Meeting
The Lilies Fiber meeting was small. I'm thinking that we should plan a
different time next year (this year was Thursday over lunch), particularly since
we'll have elections next year. If anyone has suggestions, please let me know.
The Fiber and Needle tent was very busy this year at Lilies. Clare did a
wonderful job of organizing the tent. Lots of classes were taught, lots of
demos happened, and generally people seemed to feel comfortable to drop in and
sit for a while.
We have been asked if we would be willing to host a week long tailor shop demo
in the tent next year. The day long demo was well attended this year, but put a
great deal of pressure on a few people to finish the garments the next day. The
tailor shop would be assembled, complete with shelves, cutting table, etc. in a
corner of the tent. Then people who are interested could work throughout the week as they had time.
Everyone at the meeting seemed to think this was a good idea. We've asked for a
larger tent to make space for this, but I'm not sure if it will happen. (There
may not be a size between what we currently have and SUPER HUGE.)
We also discussed felting a rug for TRM throne prescence. There was some
discussion of Luzia hosting a workshop on mongol felting to accomplish this
project so that the felt could be made by pulling it behind horse(s).
(Luzia.... jump in here, please.)
There was also the idea of making bags for hauling various bits of regalia, with
care instructions attached. I can't remember who was going to spearhead this.
Dejeniera suggested that we may want to host another workshop with a guest
speaker (similar to the Nancy Spies workshop). Those at the meeting seemed most
interested in inviting Mistress ora Sharptooth to come speak. I believe that
Cara and Dej are currently working on finding a site to host the event as well
as potential costs (site, airfare, food, etc.) Once more information is
gathered, they will contact ora to see if she is amenable to the idea.
Also of note: Tamara has offered to host a fiber retreat later this summer. Look for details to follow
I have a feeling that I am missing a couple of points of discussion, please fill
in if you remember more or differently than I do.
Thanks!
